Winter is on the horizon once again, with snow falling and temperatures dropping below zero on several occasions already. However, with winter not going anywhere until March next year, there’s no better time to take important steps throughout your home to ensure it stays warm during the coldest season.
At Look4Plumbers we’ve pulled together five simple things you should consider to keep your home warm this winter:
Did you know that up to 25% of heat loss throughout winter is due to air leakage. A quick and easy way to stop this from happening is to draught-proof your home. Purchase draught excluders or rubber door seals and place them by windows and doors throughout your property to block gaps. This simple trick will prevent the cool air from sneaking through and entering the rest of your home.
Another sure-fire way to keep your home warm and toasty during the colder months is to make sure that it’s properly insulated. Whether it’s your walls, loft, hot water pipes or all of the above, in doing so you’ll stop the heat from escaping and reduce your heating bills by up to half.
During winter our windows essentially become holes in our homes allowing heat to escape. However, there is a quick (and depending on your taste, affordable) fix to this. Ahead of temperatures dropping further use thick curtains throughout your home to trap warmth inside.
Whilst this step may be a little pricier, the long-term benefits outweigh this cost. There’s a high chance that it may be time to upgrade your boiler. If so, by replacing your boiler not only will you successfully make your home warmer, but you can also save money on your energy bills too.
The final piece of advice is to look at optimising your heating system. For example, you could install a programmable thermostat, bleed your radiators or even install reflector panels. All of which will effectively make for a warmer home, whilst likely reducing the costs you’re paying to do so.
So, there you have it, five ways to ensure your home is warm all winter long. Find your plumber at Look4 Plumbers.
